My latest Exhibition.
Well here are some of the paintings showing in my latest exhibition 'An Imaginative Eye.' I'm now luxuriating in some procrastination time before ploughing ahead with a new series of work.
The full collection of these paintings can be seen at www.bellfineart.co.uk
This series of work focuses on places, people and transcience. I wanted to explore the complexities of personality and how the places we visit, the things we spend our time doing, shape who we are. I am intrigued by how life can throw at us such varied experiences and how those experiences can leave us feeling like one person one day, then a completely different person the next.
within this series I did 5 paintings which feature a character called Maud. Maud is seen to be doing many very different things in the paintings, visiting Russia, growing pumpkins, landing on the moon, reading in a library. I wanted to explore the idea of how varied experiences and opportunities build who we are.
I also look at the transcience of lifes journey and the impact that places we've lived, or visited leave their mark on us. I was lucky enough to grow up on the South Cornish Coast, where as a child I enjoyed days on beautiful beaches and camping out. I was surrounded by magical inspirational scenery and grew up in a close knit working class community. I look back with fond memories on the things I got up to as a child, the places I spent time in and I realise how much influence that had on the work I produce now.
These days I live in London and life couldn't be more different than the world of my formative years. I also feel I have a strong connection with this city with all its variety, and the way in which I think and paint has been influenced by some of the people that I know now, and the experiences I have over recent years.
I see my next series of work focusing more on the City and urban lifestyles. I'd also like to link it with my past and Cornwall, and explore both places in one series of work. Somtimes these days I don't know whether I am more Cornish or whether I feel I'm more of a London girl having lived here for 5 years now, and it is this lovely intriguing confusion within myself that I'd like to explore, so watch this space.
